If you didn’t log onto ASIANGIGS.COM last week, I’m afraid you’ve missed the fun.

DISCOGRAPHY
TAZ has been on the Asian Music Scene for yonks. Those of us who have followed the Asian Club Scene religiously will know that TAZ was once known as JOHNNY ZEE (I hope your not embarrassed TAZ), and back in the day released an album called ‘HIT THE DECK’. JOHNNY ZEE has moved on rapidly since then and has releases such as ‘Yaar Naal Nachle EP’, ‘Spirits of Rythmn’, ‘A New Dawn’, ‘I’ve Been Waiting’, and very recently has had huge success with ‘SLAVE II FUSION’ which contains the smash ‘PYAAR HOGIA’ which goes down well at weddings. He’s gone under so many different names over the years with Johnny Zee, then Stereo Nation, moving onto Tarsem Singh and now TAZ FROM STEREO NATION. Will there be more name changes??? (I hear you ask??) Well that’s a secret!!!!!
TAZ – ‘LAILA’ – SONY MUSIC
The biggest news about Taz’s new single ‘LAILA’ on SONY MUSIC is that its successfully entered the Mainstream Commercial Charts and its on a Mainstream Label. Most of you will know that its extremely difficult for an ‘Asian Act’ to break the Mainstream. So give TAZ the support he needs and grab a copy of the single, its out in your record shops NOW. I would also like to see more ‘Asian Acts’ such as TAZ in Mainstream Music Media.
‘LAILA’ represents the true sound to modern Asian Music. The collaboration between East & West is extensive. The single has 4 mixes on it and a CD Video. The Indian Mix is my personal favorite but I think the R n B version will be popular with the masses. The track is naturally cheerful and has that ‘feel good factor’. A mixture of ‘Tabla’ high’s and low’s blended with an R n B beat works well along with the highly acclaimed ‘Vocoder’ effect which is heavily caned in many recent Asian Album releases. Is it good?? Is it bad?? Are you sick of it?? Or are you lovin’ it?? Original??? Well I can answer that. NO!!!!!! It’s another ‘IT’ factor borrowed from the WEST. I’m being honest. I personally think it’s a little over-done on this single. Some of the lyrics are hard to understand. Apart from this, it has the beach and a tropical destination written all over it. I say this cos of the ‘Maria Maria’ bit. A demonstration of a modern Asian single, containing English Lyrics. Will it peak highly in the charts??? Get on Top Of The Pops???, MTV, Radio 1, Kiss 100?????
THAT’S UP TO YOU!!!!!!!!!!!
