So director Sanjay Gupta believes that he can still make one of those designer action movies here in Bollywood and this time, he is bringing a big major star cast indeed. But he certainly needs some Hollywood inspirations for it. So this time he has decided to make his latest movie, KAANTE, a desi version of the Hollywood flick RESERVOIR DOGS!

The story is set in New York, where six NRI Indians are planning to make the perfect bank robbery. All the six are total strangers to each other but each have their very own pasts and criminal experiences. But these six will have to work together, keep aside their egos and differences and pull off the robbery.

But soon there is a problem...it seems that one of them is an undercover cop. But who is it?

Bringing together the Big B, Sanjay Dutt, Kumar Gaurav, Sunil and Aditya Pancholli all are no easy task . But then the biggest casting surprises are the inclusion of singer Lucky Ali and director Mahesh Manjrekar. Certainly making it a movie worth looking out for.

It shall also be incidentally, Amitabh Bachchan's second bank robbery movie. He is also playing such a role in his ALL THE BEST, yet another star studded one.

Shilpa Shetty is one of the first heroines to have been decided for the movie. How many more is still uncertain.

The movie starts with the release of a legendary gangster from prison (Amitabh Bachchan), he has had enough of prison and he will commit one last job before he retires, that will set him up for life. He then proceeds to mastermind a brilliant criminal scheme to rob the biggest bank in the country. He decides he needs 5 guys to help him out. So he puts the word out on the street, that he's on the lookout for 5 guys who have the relevant skills to help him do the job. They will each get 1/6th of the loot. the first person to get recruited is an infamous bank robber (Sanjay Dutt) with a very violent streak. When he tells his greedy wife (Shilpa Shetty) about the job, she coaxes him into killing the rest of the team and taking all the loot for himself when the job is over. One by one, 3 other guys get recruited for the job, Mahesh Manjrekar (a drug addict and petty thief), Sunil Shetty, Akhsaye Khanna/Mahesh Manjrekar. Only one guy remains, by this time word gets out to the cops about the job, and they put an undercover cop  to infiltrate the gang and after the job is over it is his duty to apprehend them. So he gets himself recruited.

Everything is planned to minute detail, its agreed that no one will get hurt in the job. So when they get into the bank and hold everyone up to gunpoint and proceed to rob the bank, Sanjay Dutt can't help him self he gets trigger happy, and starts gunning down the employees for the sheer hell of it, Sunil, Mahesh, and Akshay, follow his lead and they too just start shooting all the employees and the people in the bank. Amitabh and the job goes smoothly. But somehow AB get to realise that there is a mole in the team, so AB takes them all to an abandonded house, to determine who the mole is and finish him off. When he gets there he lets them know what he has dicovered, what follows is all 6 of the guys in the room pointing guns at each to figure out who the mole is. While this is happening the guy (Sanjay Dutt) who wants the loot for his self is planning how he will do away with the other and take it for himself. What follows is a spectacular shoot out where everyone is firing at each other and at the end there is a pool of blood and bodies all over the place..

The movie shall be shot in a two month schedule from start to finish in New York and Hollywood studios around September-October. The movie is being presented by Pritish Nandy Communications and the music shall be scored by Viju Shah.
