Happenings report from Bollywood (Feb 2002).

By Fuad Omar

The past two week's have been quiet where Bollywood is concerned but that's because the best of the industry were away from the hotspots. The cream of Bollywood were in Lucknow the past week performing at Sahara City as part of the Republic Day celebrations. The Moranis had organised several stage shows with leading film stars, all performing together. Ironically, when certain television channels were airing reports of Aishwarya Rai's hospitalisation on Wednesday night, she was enjoying a dinner with Shah Rukh Khan, Karisma Kapoor, Raveena Tandon, Rani Mukherjee and Aftab Shivdasani. The stars are all performing in the city and Ash has been a media favourite there.

Ash was her chirpy self saying "We're all having such a great time here. It's all like one big parivaar. Amitji and Jayaji were here. Even though we are in Lucknow, it feels like we are on a stage show tour around the world. The crowd has been extremely receptive to all of us. We have done five shows and still have one more to go," she said proving once more that the media has problems reporting the truth where she's concerned lately. The real Ash is the unreported Ash and it's a shame wherever she goes and whatever she does they can't help bringing her down. She received a superstar's reception in Lucknow and deservedly so.

Now she's back, we can expect Yash Chopra to soon announce his next project with her. Shah Rukh too has signed her for his home production. Her only comment on these two biggies was: "Well, it's too early to say anything about Yashji's film but I do believe that silence is golden and perseverance pays in the long run. The show must go on and you have to let life take it's own course."

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Devdaas which also stars Madhuri and Shah Rukh is being readied for a release in June. "I don't want to raise expectations but it truly is an amazing film," she says trying not to give too much away.

Hrithik Roshan is starting his world tour in less than three and a half months, and it looks like the UK could be the place where it all kicks off. The superstar hasn't had time to even think about it as he's busy working on his home production Koi Mil Gaya. He celebrated his birthday on January 10 in the usual busy manner. At his home there were the usual barrage of guests, calls and SMS messages. Ask how many and he'll give you that grin of his and reply: "Oh too many and I spent half the day answering all of them personally. Since I had the time I thought I might as well do it," says the man who used to answer his every fan mail personally until the busy lifestyle kicked in. "I remember I was in Sydney, Australia, for my last birthday with Suzanne. And I had the day off. God, that seems such a long time ago!"

This birthday Hrithik was working throughout: "I was busy with my Chacha (music maestro Rajesh Roshan) and my Dad for a song in Koi Mil Gaya. In the evening, it was the gym as usual. Suzanne had something planned for the evening."

On a final note he can't help but add his joy of the success of K3G, before getting on with his schedule: "I'm so glad K3G has done well. It is entirely Karan's baby. Had Karan given me a choice of characters to play in the film I would still have picked mine. Although I'm not the film's leading man Karan has made sure my fans aren't disappointed". Holding his own against such stalwarts as Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh, while looking good, dancing, and kidnapping the British Museum and giving us a taste of what he'd be like on the streets of London. I don't think disappointment was ever a possibiity. The promos for his new flick Aap Mujhe Aachche Lagne Lage have been possibility! The promos for his new flick Aap Mujhe Achchey Lagne Lage have known to cause some stirring whenever they're played because despite them being close ups of the man and Amisha, you can tell the teaser is literally mind-blowing. Get ready for Hrithik mania for another year!

Another man who's all set for success is Suresh Oberoi's son Vivek. I had the pleasure of meeting the young man on the sets of Dum in which he co-stars with Diya Mirza, and the man oozes charisma, confidence and dedication. When he narrows his eyes into an angry look, you can't help but look away. Watch him in the full promos of RamGopal Verma's Company and you'll see the gangster gripping a gun and toting verbal bullets with ease as though he's a pro. Mark my words, this one will go far and we at Asiangigs have already been working hard in getting you the lowdown, expect an interview with the hot new star soon!

Another star to watch for here on Asiangigs, with his own message to the website soon too is none other than Supermodel turned actor Dino Morea who can be seen in the recently released Raaz. Ex-Beatle Paul McCartney was in Ex-Beatle Paul McCartney was in Mumbai recently and couldn't resist checking out Dino's launch vehicle too! Vikram Bhatt's new film that is supposed to be based on What Lies Beneath stars Dino Morea and Bipasha Basu. As Sir Paul McCartney is not well versed in Hindi, Dino had to do the translating- What was that like Dino? "Yeah man! He was sitting right next to me and it was great! He liked it and thought it was a little scary," he says enthusiastically on the phone. "In totality, he found Raaz to be a riveting film," says producer Ramesh Taurani. The ex-Beatle apparently even took a liking to Bipasha Basu, saying she resembled Sophia Loren.

KC Bokadia's long awaited and long-in-the-making film Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam is finally being readied for release in April with the promos being aired now regularly. After financier Bharat Shah's arrest, the producer faced much trouble and delays in completing his movie. The three stars of the film Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit attended the film's music release on Monday, January 21 at the Holiday Inn hotel,to show their support for the project. The basics were as follows: Shah Rukh said he was glad that the film had shaped up well and that he was awaiting its release. Salman described his experience of working in the project as fruitful and added that he will always cherish the experience. Madhuri made a blink-and-you'll-miss-her appearance but looked a million bucks. KC said at the function: "My company, BMB., is going through tough times and I shall eternally be grateful to Salman, Shah Rukh and Madhuri for standing by me in this hour of crisis. Had it not been for them, I would have collapsed completely." The film sees Shah Rukh play Madhuri's husband until ex-flame Salman turns up.
