Goldie Behl's Bas Itna Sa Khwaab Hai released this Friday to reviews which
would make Abhishek Bachchan blush with joy. The highly anticipated movie
which has gained momentum as its promos and stills have been carefully
unleashed onto the film going public raised interests after its soothing
melodies found their way to the hearts of music lovers everywhere. The
superhit song 'Ye Hawaiye Zulfon Mein Teri' rendered by Shaan made this
singer's name known to the industry and AB Jr was complimented on how he
looked in the promos.
A press conference was organised in Mumbai for the movie just before its
release where the media were given the opportunity to ask the stars about
the movie and the event turned into a memorable one by all present.
Abhishek Bachchan was on form, cracking jokes and chatting away to the nines
with the media audience. The Junior Bachchan created many chuckles and seems
to have quite a following among his critics, as well as many who believe in
him as was revealed.
The Abhishek-Rani Mukherjee-Sushmita Sen-Jackie Shroff starrer released on
July 6 to mixed reviews, but packed auditoriums, especially across the UK in
cinemas like the Cineworld in Feltham. At the press conference Abhishek
showed no signs of nervousness about the film which is crucial to his career
and the media and fans alike are awaiting to see if it will elevate his
non-hit laden career and silence his detractors.
"It is Goldie's dream, and I'm glad we made this film," he smiled.
Debut director Goldie Behl (son of Ramesh Behl) was the opposite and nervous
as hell: "Man, I'm spaced out," he mumbled someone caught him aside for a
quick chat.
Jackie Shroff looking cool as ice in blue denims and a relaxed look (as
always) was taking it easy and said in his now infamous Dada style: "It's
their day. Let the boys do the talking," before adding, "Goldie is a very
talented boy, his enthusiasm has bowled me over."
Sushmita Sen, who plays a small but important role in the movie and has been
appreciated in the promos (especially for the 'Dil Nasheen' song where
she is looking her sensual best) was bright and enthusiastic about the
movie. "The minute Goldie narrated the script to me I said yes," she
revealed. "He's young and talented and he's got his take on life right.
Believe me, he's made a very sweet film. It's been a pleasure working with
him. After doing this film, I don't just have another good role to my credit
but also a ready-made family. Abhishek, Goldie, Srishti Behl (the producer),
Jackie, they are all family now. I'll take them with me along with my
memories."
Abhishek's main female co-star Rani Mukherjee was absent, but Sushmita's
taking the mic made up for it. "You know, a lot of people have asked me if I
would have preferred to do Rani's role. To be honest, I wouldn't suit it at
all. Lara Oberoi in this film is me. She's ambitious, she wears business
suits but she has a heart."
Abhishek fielded questions like a professional and threw in a few jokes to
lighten the mood. When a journalist asked him how he felt working with young
directors like Raj Kanwar and Goldie, he grinned and answered, "Hey, are you
a friend of Raj Kanwar or something? I mean, you are calling him young."
Thunderous applause broke out at Bachchan junior's joke.
After that, he clearly continued to make his mark and had the media eating
out of his hands. When asked if he was ambitious just like his character in
the film, he stated, "I'm very ambitious. And I always get what I want." And
are you ambitious enough to forego your love for your career, the same
journalist retorted, referring to his much written about relationship with
Karisma Kapoor. A deafening silence resonated throughout the room before
Abhishek: "My career is my only love," causing applause to break out again.
Abhishek gained recognition with his first film Refugee, but not the box
office rewards he deserves, and his follow up films like 'Dhai Akshar Prem Ke'
and 'Tera Jaadoo Chal Gaya' also failed to set the box office alight, but this
time things seem different and have an exciting feel around them.
Sushmita
Sen agreed when asked about Abhishek and said: "Mark my words, Abhishek is a
'lambi race ka ghoda'. I want to say this to all you people out here. It's sad
that in this industry, stars are known only for their success. Agreed, he
hasn't had his fair share of success, but he's here to stay. Abhishek is
going to a BIG star. And remember I said it first."
We believe you Sush, Abhishek definitely has a lot of potential and we wish
him and the entire unit of Bas Itna Sa Khwaab Hai the best with the movie.
