Call it what you want

Call it what you want
E=mc (Balvinder Dhaliwal) - Out Sep 2004
The title 'Call it what you want' made me think - couldn't be bothered or not creative enough to think of a name or What?
Music - is it a means to entertain or one to earn yourself an 8 figure income? The several references on this album to 'sickest camp', '8 figure plan/couch' are distracting. Having listened to the MC & Rapper's lyrics on this album, the phrase 'sickest
camp' (street language of the youth), which they are suggesting as 'the most cool camp', does almost make you come the conclusion that it should also mean the literal meaning of the words. The producer seems destined to succeed, but is it so necessary to reduce music to this level? I did enjoy all the tracks on the album. What kept niggling me was the 'high attitude' lyrics of the MCs almost invariably intimidating and sex crazed. Leaving these out on his next album would definitely take it to the next level.
E=mc (BD) is no doubt a talent to be reckoned with, both in his lyrics
and music. But he is trying so desperately to 'tell' everyone of his 'bad boy' image, that it is distracting the 'new' listener from his music. Every track on the album has a very distinct trademark beats and lyrics and would love to see a more polished next product with less attitude.
Mera kal da kalja dukhda - beautiful lyrics but why?? above. Probably the best track on the album!
Manak E - Gal sun ja - super lyrics and beautiful rendering.
Teri meri gal ban joo - Excellent beats and lyrics.
Talent abundant - Pareshaan by Sabar Koti
such a lovely classical singing ruined by lyrics of the sex crazed producer. There is no doubt that the lyrical writing talents of the producer which are clearly evident and well blended.
Club - Excellent production of beats and instrument to get you moving but again the English lyrics show his big 'attitude' problem. Why is so important to show that you dominate all the females around and are the 'don' amongst the rest.
Freshie - good comedy track, but what is the point of it? I did enjoy the idea of including such the track. Reminded me of the very funny 'drunk desi at a party' track on an earlier RDB album. I suspect that there may be some sarcasm intended on some of the 'desi' MCs.
Nachana Tera - thoroughly enjoyable track - very well produced with all the desi flavours and equally comfortable on a dance floor.
Payal - beautiful track with an unusual mix of punjabi with hindi. I loved the beats. Would have sounded a lot better without the 'attitude MC's' interjections.
Tera Naa nee - another well produced track with lovely vocals of Manak E and excellent beats.
Jind yaar dee - a tear jerker and class vocals of Surinder Shinda.
Da Struggle - need to grow up!! E=mc (BS) has come up with lyrics so reminiscent of Eminem style. It is good to know that you have made it by the time you are 22, so why such a 'big chip on the shoulder'?
The lyrics are very clever and destined to go to greater heights.
Outro sums it all. A talent not to be overlooked, but needs some steering and polishing to bring out more with less attitude.
