Indian Superstar and Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan will be in London to
unveil his wax portrait figure at Madame Tussaud's on Wednesday 20th
December 2000.
He was voted as the star fans most wanted to see immortalised in wax earlier
this year as part of Madame Tussaud's online poll, results of which were
announced at the International Indian Film Awards at the Millennium Dome in
June. This was the first time an Indian film star will be featured in the
waxwork museum and also the first time the public were able to decide who
they wanted to have honoured at Madame Tussaud's.
A private unveiling ceremony will take place before the exhibition opens and
MadameTussaud's have decided to give fans the chance to meet the Bollywood
legend in person. The first visitors through the door at 10.00am on 20th
December will get the chance to meet the real Mr Bachchan who will stay on
in the exhibition for the first half-hour of public opening time. So you can
see the real Big B if you are first in the queue or can pre- book your entry
ticket in advance by calling their hotline on 0870 400 3000.
Amitabh Bachchan has certainly had a great year in 2000 with his superhit
show 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' in India winning unprecedented ratings, his
return to the big screen in the year's blockbuster Mohabbatein and with the
IIFA and BBC awards for star of the millennium, and to top it all off he
recently became a grandfather too!
His achievements were highlighted as B4U recently decided to pay tribute to
the biggest star of the last century and have an Amitabh season and
currently Zee TV are ending their year by celebrating too with Amitabh films
being shown throughout this month.
The 'AMITABH BACHCHAN SEASON'on Zee TV begins on Sunday 3rd and every Sunday
thereafter in the month of December. The films slated to be shown are KAALIA,
AAKHRI RAASTA,NAMAK HALAAL and SOORYAVANSHAM. These movies showcase the
acting skills of BACHCHAN as he portrays a variety of roles. "It's a
tribute to the talent of an individual who has enthralled us with his
histrionics on screen. Zee TV is proud to be showing not one but four films
of one of the greatest film star of all time in Indian cinema," said an
official spokesperson from the programming department.
Amitabh is undoubtedly a living legend. I remember stammering in his
presence when I first met him over two years ago and how even to date when I
see him I still reminisce of how his films have etched their way into my
childhood. When I was on location with him earlier this year at the shooting
of Mohabbatein, nothing had changed - everyone was still in awe of this
great actor. His Indian gameshow take off on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire
is also one to watch as no one can imitate his style. I clearly remember the
hysteria generated by this show in every household while I was in India
recently and how cinemas had even changed their movie times screening movies
around the show so that they could also catch the superstar on the small
screen, knowing full well that since his show first aired the cinemas were
half empty on weekdays at 9pm thanks to Kaun Banega Crorepati!
The schedule for the AMITABH BACHCHAN SEASON on Zee TV is as
follows: December 3rd 8.30 p.m. -KAALIA co-starring Parveen Babi December
10th 8.30 p.m.-AAKHRI RAASTA-co-starring Jaya Prada December 17th
8.30.p.m.-NAMAAK HALAAL-co-starring Smita Patil December 24th 8.30
p.m.-SOORYAVANSHAM co-starring Soundarya
Catch Indian cinema's most popular star live at Madame Tussaud's and on Zee
in all his glory, as this writer too dedicates this year to Amitabh
Bachchan.
